Summer Games Event
Schedule
Over 18,000 of the world's best athletes will convene in London to
compete in 26 different sports. More than 2 billion people will be
watching around the world, but you can witness the most prominent
international sports celebration in person with Great Atlantic
Travel.
|
|
| The majority of venues have
been divided into three zones within Greater London: the Olympic
Zone, the River Zone and the Central Zone. In addition to these are
those venues that, by necessity, are outside the boundaries of
Greater London, such as the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing
Academy on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, 235 km southwest of the
Olympic Park, Tring in Hertfordshire (which will host the start of
the 50 km walk) and other stadia across the UK. The Ricoh Arena in
Coventry, some 170 km northwest of the Olympic Park, will host
footballing events. |

Event Seating: Event Ticket Category represents the ticket
category that corresponds to the designated seating location for
the particular session at each venue. Categories range from A-C.
Category A is considered to be the best premium seating option,
with Category B being next and then Category C. Travel Packages
indicated above include Category B/C tickets.
All persons purchasing tickets to the opening and closing
ceremonies will be required to submit their photo and only that
person themselves will be allowed to enter the stadium. Additional
information will be furnished at a later date.
Opening Ceremony: The Opening Ceremony will take
place on July 27, 2012 at the Olympic Stadium. This Ceremony is one
of the most important events of the Games, and with the gathering
of athletes and officials, add 80,000 spectators, it will be the
celebration of the century. Through live satellite broadcasts,
people around the world will focus on this stage as the Olympic
flag which London received from Beijing is passed and the
flame which expresses our hopes for peace and friendship is, lit in
the cauldron. The Opening Ceremony will consist of a ceremonial
program and an artistic program, and will last approximately two
-three hours.
Closing Ceremony: The Closing Ceremony will take
place on August 12, 2012 in the same stadium where the
Opening Ceremony was held. This Ceremony will be in the new chapter
of Olympic Games, in the 21st Century and the program will be such
that it gives great expectations to children, who will be the
leaders of the next generations. The Ceremony will consist of a
ceremonial program and an artistic program.
Olympic Transportation System: In preparation for
the games, London's public transportation system is
currently undergoing a major expansion. Transport for London (TfL)
are carrying out numerous improvements in preparation for 2012,
including the expansion of the London Overground's East London
Line, upgrades to the Docklands Light Railway and the North London
Line, and the introduction of a new "Javelin" high-speed rail
service, using the Hitachi Corporation's "bullet" trains. Your
event tickets will allow you to travel free on day of events.
