highways - in the main - are of a high standard; main highways are
sealed and offer no difficulty for motorists from overseas. Those
routes not sealed are generally well-graded and maintained.
Visiting drivers can generally expect to average 90 km per hour
during a day's drive in New Zealand.
Drivers License: A current domestic or international
diver's license is required by all persons intending to drive the
vehicle. Minimum driver's age is 21 years.

Island Volcanic Explorer
Rangitoto Island is the largest of Auckland's volcanoes and New
Zealand's youngest volcanic island. Board the vessel and cruise to
Rangitoto Island where you'll join the 4WD road train and learn
about the unique flora and fauna of the island as you make your way
to the base of the summit of Rangitoto. From here it's a 900 metre
walk along a scenic boardwalk to the top where you will be rewarded
with spectacular views of Auckland's Hauraki Gulf. Continue on to
visit the west coast of the island before arriving back at the
wharf for the return sail to Auckland city

This afternoon travel to the Waitakere Ranges, and the Arataki

erupted on 10th June 1886. Enjoy the thrill of the scree slide into
the crater and experience the magnitude of its beauty.

trekking over Patuns Farm for around 2 hours is the order of the

before stopping in at the Martinborough Wine Centre for a tasting
or afternoon tea.
25 Sept. Wellington to Nelson. Today you
travel to Nelson, either by motor home (Please note motor home
will need returning to Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch)
or travel y ferry and coach to the South Island.

Tasman National Park.
Cruise to Totaranui and return, disembark at Anchorage 12:30pm.
Walk 3½ hrs to Marahau.

Optional Tour Idea: Tongariro Alpine
Crossing
This walk has you on the top of Red Crater watching the sun
rise in unique lighting and with the peaceful, still, quiet moments
of the dawn. During winter, crampons and ice axes are required.
Winter trips have the luxury of few other walkers and place mostly
to ourselves. No outdoor experience is necessary. The Tongariro
Alpine Crossing starts at the Mangatepopo Valley (1100 m), and the
first 2 hours of the trek is an upward gentle gradient to Soda
Springs. The track leads up to the Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe
saddle and it is steep. This section is taken slowly to ensure we
all enjoy the spectacle and scenery.
29 Sept. Napier to Martinborough.
