Darlington Raceway opened in 1950 and held its first race that year. It is has an oval shape with the corners at each end having a different radius. With these different radiuses it sets up a cars suspension so it handles well, but if you are unfamiliar with the turns you are likely to earn your Darlington stripes.

This track was designed around a minnow pound because the owner of the land did not want the pond to be disturbed. Since then it has given the track the unique form around turns 3 & 4.
