- Moscow: is the capital city and the most
populous federal subject of Russia. The city is a major political,
economic, cultural and scientific center in Russia and in Europe.
Moscow is the northernmost megacity on Earth, the most populous
city in Europe, and the 5th largest city in the world. It's also
the largest city in Russia with a population, according to the 2010
Census, of 11,503,501.
- Sochi: is a city in Krasnodar Krai, Russia,
situated on the Black Sea coast near Georgia and Russia border.
Greater Sochi sprawls for 145 kilometers (90 mi) along the shores
of the Black Sea near the Caucasus Mountains. According to the 2010
Census, the city had a permanent population of 343,334; up from
328,809 recorded in the 2002 Census, making it Russia's largest
resort city.
- Saint Petersburg: is a city and a federal
subject (a federal city) of Russia located on the Neva River at the
head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. Saint Petersburg is
often described as the most Western city of Russia and t is also
the northernmost city in the world to have a population of over one
million.
- Kaliningrad: is a seaport city and the
administrative center of Kaliningrad Oblast, the Russian exclave
between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic Sea. The territory
borders on NATO and EU members Poland and Lithuania, and is
geographically separated from the rest of Russia.
- Nizhny Novgorod: colloquially shortened to
Nizhny, Nizhny Novgorod is the fifth largest city in Russia with a
population of 1,250,615. The city is an important economic,
transport and cultural center of the Russian Federation. It is the
economic and cultural center of the vast Volga-Vyatka economic
region, and also the administrative center of Nizhny Novgorod
Oblast and Volga Federal District.
- Kazan: is the capital and largest city of the
Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. With a population of 1,161,308, it
is the eighth most populous city in Russia, while the metropolitan
area has a population of 1.57 million (2011). Kazan lies at the
confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers in European Russia.
- Samara: is the sixth largest city in Russia.
It is situated in the southeastern part of European Russia at the
confluence of the Volga and Samara Rivers on the east bank of the
Volga. The Volga acts as the city's western boundary while the
northern boundary is formed by the Sokolyi Hills and by the steppes
in the south and east. Samara is the administrative center of
Samara Oblast.
- Saransk: is a city in central European Russia
and the capital of the Republic of Mordovia, as well as its
financial and economic center. It is located in the Volga basin at
the confluence of the Saranka and Insar Rivers, about 630
kilometers (390 mi) east of Moscow.
- Volgograd: is an important industrial city and
the administrative center of Volgograd Oblast, Russia. It is
80-kilometer (50 mi) long,[7] north to south, situated on the
western bank of the Volga River.
- Rostov-on-Don: is a port city and the
administrative center of Rostov Oblast and the Southern Federal
District of Russia. It lies on the Don River, 32 kilometers (20 mi)
from the Sea of Azov.
- Yekaterinburg: is the fourth-largest city in
Russia with a population of 1,398,889 (2012). Yekaterinburg is
situated in the middle of the Eurasian continent, on the border of
Europe and Asia. Yekaterinburg is the administrative center of
Sverdlovsk Oblast and the main industrial and cultural center of
the Ural Federal District.
